The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.1
- Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1
--------------------------------------------------------------------
SUMMARY
=======
This article discusses the method of configuring a Lotus Notes client
on a Windows NT or Windows NT Advanced Server computer using NWLink
talking to a Lotus Notes server when the IPC mechanism is NetBIOS.
MORE INFORMATION
================
Lotus Notes currently ships with two types of servers, a Windows
server, which only uses NetBIOS, and an OS/2 server, which supports
both NetBIOS and IPX/SPX.
This article explanation is based on having Lotus Notes server loaded
on a OS/2 2.1 computer using NetBIOS configuration to communicate with
its clients.
On computers with Windows 3.1 or MS-DOS, Lotus Notes clients need
NETBIOS.EXE loaded in AUTOEXEC.BAT to communicate to the Lotus Notes
server.
On computers with Windows NT or Windows NT Advanced Server, configure
the Lotus Notes client using NWLink by doing the following:
1. In the Control Panel window, choose the Network icon, select Add
Software, and then select the NWLink IPX/SPX Compatible Transport
option.
This also adds NWNBLink, which is Novell's NetBIOS implementation.
2. In the Control Panel window, choose the Network icon, select
NetBIOS Interface, choose Configure, select the bindings that say
"NWNBlink -> Streams" and change its Lana # to "0".
3. In the Control Panel window, choose the Network icon, select
NWLink, choose Configure and select the appropriate Network Number and
Frame Type.
Restart the computer after making these changes.
Lotus Notes Client
------------------
On the Lotus Notes client, choose Network Port from the Options menu,
and make sure the Network Port is "0."
NOTE: The Lotus Notes client must be configured to use Network Port #0
and NWNBLink -> Streams binding must be at Lana #0 on the Windows NT
computer for this configuration to work.
With these changes, the Lotus Notes client will be able to connect to
the Lotus Notes server using NWLink transport.
